Public treated to a great winter concert

February 20: The Winter Concert was held at the Fruita Middle School Auditorium.  The audience was treated to a wonderful program.
The 7th grade band performed "The Sorcerer's Procession" by Akey and "Rock Around the Clock" by DeKnight/Freedman, arr. Eric Osterling.
The Fruita 8th grade Concert Band played "March of the Irish Guard" arr. by Ployhar and "Shipwrecked" by Nowlin.
As a treat for all, the 7th and 8th grade combined bands to perform "Fires of Mazama" written by Michael Sweeney.
With expectations high, the 9th Grade Symphonic Band looked toward next week's competition involving some 80 bands at Palisade High School, to do their best and make it to state competition in Denver.
Preforming a 4th rated, (highest in difficulty), the group did a superb job performing "Symphony #4 written by Andrew Boysen, Jr.
Music is alive and well in Fruita thanks to Joseph Webb, FMS, Brett Argo, F 8/9  and John Snell, Music aide and retired professional musician.
Ryan Crabtree, FMH attended, score in hand, listening intently to the competition work, When asked what chances the 9th grade symphonic band has at competition, he remarked that the competition was going to be tough, with the number of bands. He feels they will do well but so much is subjective.
Next week will be most interesting.
