Fruita's first block party, April 18, 2009

Thanks to an idea and the willingness to help with that idea, the city of Fruita saw its first block party of 2009 in the downtown.  Ronnie Welsh planted the seed. She and her husband, Dan,  started the ball rolling. The Fruita Rotary manned the beer garden,  setting up fencing and tables. Old Belgium raised their tent.
Businesses lining the site happily signed up to okay the idea. Single Track's support with additional tables and support helped the event.
The fun began at 5 p.m. with Ernie McHugh and other musicians on board to start the evening celebration.  Paul Harshman and Flat Top Reed captured the crowd with their special  brand of entertainment  from 8 to 10.  With plenty of food from Aspen Street, Hot Tomato, Ponchos, Dominos, Camilla's Kaffe, the crowds were happy and ready for the party.

Sharing conversations and beverages with friends, families and visitors,  the block party started the season with a positive  beginning. Ruby Canyon and Over the Edge kept their doors open. The Rabbit Valley Race brought in bicyclists who, hopefully  will be returning for the special Fat Tires events of next weekend.
There proved to be some very fancy dancers who thoroughly helped entertain bystanders. When asked how they felt about the party, every response was "it's great!" Couples, families and visitors joined in to celebrate what an idea can do. Look for more of these events to come.
Enjoy that Fat Tire weekend coming up April 24, 25 and 26. There will be fun for all.
