Fruita Thrift Store helps WWII Veterans travel to Washington

Fruita American Legion Post 2006 now numbers around 10 or 12 members. The post held one of its meetings at a local restaurant. This meeting covered some very important events, one of which was the presentation of a $2400.00 check from the Fruita Thrift Shop, given to the American Legion Post to help foot the bill to send a number of WWII Veterans on a trip to Washing, D.C.

Calvin Davis, Richard and Laura Means and Ruth Farley represented the Thrift Shop.

“We are just glad we could help with this honor flight,” Richard Means said.

Also honored at the meeting was Julie Ingram who was recognized for her support of her son, Zane, a member of the U.S. Navy. She received a certificate of gratitude to give to Zane and a Blue Star Mother Banner. Jim and Allison Whipple also were recognized with the same certificate and banner for their support of their daughter, Marinda, a Marine.

Retired Colonel Backett, Post Commander, recognized other Legion members for their membership recruitment efforts.
